About Chenai Chair

Who am I?

Curiosity, social justice, and a need for gender equity drive my interest in digital technology. My work focuses on digital rights through research to influence public interest policy and civil society engagement; advisory to technologists to think of how their technology affects women and gender diverse people, and interventions such as grant-making and fellowships to support leadership growth and sustainability of feminist movements on the African continent. The latter is manifesting in my current role as Mozilla Special Advisory on Africa Innovation Mradi.

My work draws on principles of feminism to think through digital technology interventions in their contexts and how they connect globally. I have worked on women’s rights online, digital identity, online gender-based violence, and data and AI projects.

When I am not unpacking the digital technologies, I spend my time looking at beautiful accessories made in Africa and curating them for my business, Bantu Accessories. I am also raising plants that raise themselves in an urban jungle.

“I treasure and hold my multiple identities because that gives me the freedom to pursue my multiple interests and enables me to be who I want to be.” – Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah
